Bookends is one of the largest independent bookshops in the South of England and also stocks extensive ranges of greetings cards, giftwrap and gift stationery. The first floor comprises an Art Centre stocking art materials, art books, prints, frames and original paintings.

In 1997 Bookends won a Nibbie (book trade 'Oscar') for
in-store and window display.

Bookshop - the ground floor bookshop stocks more than 20,000 titles at any one time so there is plenty of choice for all. Especially large ranges can be found in our biography, history, fiction, mind & spirit and travel sections.

Our friendly staff will be pleased to help you find the book you want and, if it is not in stock, we will be happy to order it for you.

Children's Department - a feature of the shop is the large ground floor children's department which offers a friendly fun-filled atmosphere. Children love to ride in the car and play with the toys. The multi-media computer is very popular.

Events - are regularly held in-store and in recent years these have included:

Book Signings - John Major, Jamie Oliver, Joanna Trollope, Shane Warne, Murray Walker, Jacqueline Wilson, Bernard Cornwell, Ken Hom, Terry Pratchett, Dickie Bird, Tommy Walsh, Ellen MacArthur, Alan Titchmarsh and many, many more.

History
Bookends Bookshop was established in Church Street, Christchurch in 1975 by Nigel Brewer and Trevor Willetts. After 15 years of highly successful trading in the town, they sold to Mike & Ann Hyde. In 1995 the business moved to large High Street premises allowing the business to expand considerably the range of books and also to move into other complimentary areas.

[Note: Bookends Bookshop & Art Centre in Christchurch is a privately owned independent business and has no connection with any other shops called Bookends anywhere else in the UK.]
